Collages
As part of my art practice,
I create collages out of found and previously loved materials: old maps,
postage stamps, pages from books that are falling apart. I let my intuition
guide me as I paint and tear and glue and embellish.
I start with one or two
images that I've found in my collection of falling apart natural history
and science books and magazines from the early to mid-1900s. These images
usually suggest a story and, like an archaeologist or archivist, I dig
around to piece a picture together. I'm not looking for firm answers,
rather suggestions of what could have been, what might have been. In a
sense, everything I work with has already happened, has already been documented.
I play with those histories to create something new.
