Ideas and Inspiration for Educators

Enhance your salmon life cycle lesson plan by including one or more of the following elements. And please send us your ideas to inspire others!

1. Make Fish On Sticks

  • Create your own Wild Salmon (see handout)
  • Have a parade! Or join the Wild Salmon Guild at the Victoria Day Parade
  • 2. Lost Streams Memorial
Imagine that the sidewalks surrounding your school were once salmon filled streams. Make sidewalk chalk drawings of the salmon life cycle. Dedicate your artwork to a lost stream near your school.

    3. Poetry Slam
Send us your students' salmon poetry for future publication in print and on our website (see Salmon Sonnets).

    4. Salmon Run Obstacle Course
Rapids, fishnets, bears, dry creek beds, polluted streams. Create these obstacles on your school playground and challenge your "salmbassadors" to run the course. Use chalk drawings, gym equipment, recycle materials and playground equipment to create the hazards.

    5. Invite a Story Teller
The Ghost Run Lanterns make a guest appearance ~ all aglow in a darkened gym while a professional story teller spins the tale of salmon lost.
